Backend Engineer

About the Role

Remote is growing fast and we are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our engineering team. You will be part of a cross-functional team working to build products and features that will make Remote the best place in the world to build a global team.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Elixir and Phoenix
• Work with PostgreSQL databases, handling complex queries and optimizing performance
• Collaborate with frontend engineers working with React and NextJS
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
• Help scale our platform to support companies hiring worldwide
• Work in a fully remote, async-first environment with teammates across the globe

Requirements

• Experience with Elixir or strong willingness to learn (background in functional programming is a plus)
• Solid understanding of backend development principles and REST APIs
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern development workflows
• Excellent written communication skills (async-first culture)
• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote setting

Compensation

$41,500 - $93,350 USD annually (adjusted based on location). Remote uses geo-neutral pay ranges to ensure competitive compensation regardless of where you live.
